says happened to him.The owner, Prabin Gautam, told ABC he was stuck in the vehicle for around seven terrifying minutes before eventually managing to move it to the side of the freeway.He was later told there was a drive-motor problem.Even more concerning, he says the same error appeared twice again afterwards, and he now only feels comfortable driving the vehicle short distances on quieter roads.⚠️ But that isn't the only concern.XPENG itself released its XOS 5.6 software update in 2025 stating that its upgraded Adaptive Cruise Control would:“significantly reduce unexpected deceleration.”Think about that wording.Why was “unexpected deceleration” significant enough that the manufacturer specifically needed to address it through a software update?When we're talking about a vehicle travelling at freeway speeds, unexpected slowing or braking isn't an annoying software bug like your phone freezing.It can become a serious road-safety concern.A vehicle suddenly slowing in front of a truck or another vehicle travelling at highway speed can potentially create an extremely dangerous situation.And then we come to what has happened with XPENG's Australian distribution network.🇦🇺 XPENG AND TRUEEV — THE COURT DISPUTETrueEV was XPENG's Australian distributor.After the relationship between the companies collapsed, TrueEV took XPENG to the Federal Court.That case has now been dismissed after TrueEV failed to provide the required court security for costs.Meanwhile, Australian customers have reported being left dealing with:❌ Unpaid promised cashback❌ Servicing arrangements disrupted❌ Customers chasing reimbursement❌ Problems obtaining parts and accessories❌ Warranty and support uncertainty❌ Businesses reportedly owed significant amounts of moneyABC says it has been contacted by customers and creditors who say they have been left out of pocket.Ultra Tune says it is owed more than $100,000, while some customers say they are still waiting for the $5,000 cashback they were promised.XPENG Australia now says it will work directly with customers where eligible cashback or extended-warranty commitments can be properly documented and verified.But customers should never have had to fight their way through this situation in the first place.🚨 THIS IS WHY BUYING A CAR IS ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN PRICE, RANGE OR A BIG TOUCHSCREEN.When you spend $50,000, $60,000 or more on an EV, you're trusting the company with:🔧 Your vehicle's software🔧 Your braking and driver-assistance systems🔧 Your battery and drivetrain🔧 Spare parts🔧 Servicing🔧 Warranty support🔧 Technical faults🔧 Software updates🔧 Years of after-sales supportAnd when your vehicle relies heavily on software and electronic systems, confidence in the manufacturer and its support network becomes even more important.Now, to be completely accurate:XPENG's G6 has received a five-star ANCAP safety rating.And there has been no Australian authority finding that every XPENG vehicle is unsafe to drive.But that does NOT mean Australians should ignore reports of a vehicle dramatically slowing and stopping on a freeway.And it does NOT mean we should ignore a manufacturer's own update referring to reducing “unexpected deceleration.”So here is the question I think every potential buyer should ask themselves:🔥 WOULD YOU FEEL SAFE PUTTING YOUR FAMILY IN ONE?🔥 Would you trust it on a freeway at 100 km/h?🔥 Would you trust the software not to suddenly intervene when it shouldn't?🔥 And after everything that has happened with the distributor, would you trust the Australian support network to look after you properly if something goes wrong?For me personally?I would keep my money in my pocket until XPENG can demonstrate beyond doubt that these safety concerns have been fully addressed and that Australian customers can rely on its servicing, warranty and support network.There are simply too many well-established vehicle brands competing for the same money to gamble tens of thousands of
